2019 SBL-AAR Job Advertisement Data Report
The 2019 Jobs Report from the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion is now available. This report includes employment listing data from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019, for the Academic Year (AY) 2019. While not representative of all positions in our fields, the data provide important information for employers, candidates, and those active in biblical, religious, and theological scholarship. Moreover, we fully expect that this report will not be representative of hiring practices this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic impacts student enrollment and faculty hiring. However, because the annual report has value in helping to identify trends, it is provided to members and institutions Read the full jobs report here.

Genre and Openness in Proverbs 10:1-22:16
Suzanna R. Millar
In Genre and Openness in Proverbs 10:1–22:16, Suzanna R. Millar argues that the sayings in these chapters have a hybrid genre, “didactic proverb.” These sayings train a student’s mind by opening up a number of complex possible interpretations while being multifunctional and widely applicable. By incorporating paremiology, the technical study of the proverb genre, Millar sheds light on important issues within these chapters, including character development, the connection between act and consequence, and the acquisition of wisdom.

A History of Ancient Moab from the Ninth to First Centuries BCE
Burton MacDonald
A History of Ancient Moab from the Ninth to First Centuries BCE incorporates archaeological, epigraphic, biblical, and postbiblical evidence to construct a picture of Moabite history beginning with the Moabites' origin in the Transjordan through their emergence on the international stage. Analysis of inscriptional and archaeological discoveries shows that, although their territory was not rich in resources, their service to the Assyrian Empire made them prosperous.
